Interior of a cosmetics shop: a white island counter, backlit shelves, a mezzanine clad in travertine to the right

A narrow shop, using its height

The interior design of the Tinamu cosmetics shop, one hundred square metres. It is the second store of the Neroli group — the first Neroli was also designed by Ren Design.

The brief

A city-centre unit: narrow and deep, but with a mezzanine and a double-height glazed shopfront. That plan carries two risks. Customers do not walk to the back, and the height goes unused above their heads.

The answer

A large bird graphic covers the rear wall — the tinamou, the bird the brand is named after. It pulls the eye to the depth of the shop before anyone takes a step.

Travertine runs in a vertical band from the floor to above mezzanine level. It ties the two storeys together and provides the only warm surface.

Everything else is white and lit. Shelves sit in backlit white wall panels with glass shelf plates, so the packaging supplies the colour — and the picture changes as the range does.

Under the mezzanine, in the lower band, sit the make-up counter and mirror; in the tall part, the large pendants. Here the fittings are not only light sources: they occupy the empty volume above head height.
